Preamble:
Digital blending is a technique that consists of creating an image from several shots of the same subject, with different exposure times and settings, as well as at different times.

This workshop is presented by the photographer Daniel Cheong.
Globetrotter at heart and passionate photographer, his images of architecture and landscape have toured the world. He sublimates his work thanks to digital blending, a technique he masters to perfection.
Daniel Cheong presents his techniques during workshops he organizes in many countries. This one will be his first in France.
During this workshop, which will take place over 2 days in Paris, he will present his creative techniques on the first day in the studio, and on the following day, during a photo release.
David Duchens will accompany Daniel, in order to follow the participants for the Photoshop part. Also, he will present his course dedicated to architectural photography the next day, on the occasion of the photo outing.

Description:
You will learn how to create urban and landscape images, using the Digital Blending technique, and how to finalize them with Nik Color Efex filters (see computer equipment section below). You will also learn how to create Vertoramas (vertical panoramas), very useful for creating compositions with a strong visual impact. You will be guided through the process.

Prerequisites:
To follow this workshop, an intermediate level of knowledge of Photoshop is required (good knowledge of the use of layers and fusion masks).

Workshop content:

  • Presentation of this image style: a presentation will be made with before/after examples.
  • Shooting conditions: we will give you advice, especially regarding multiple shots in bracketing mode, and the use of ND (neutral density) filters for long exposures.
  • Development of the file in Camera Raw: the raw files, commonly called "RAW", being the most complete, since they are not processed by definition, it is from them that we will make the basic settings.
  • Exercise 1 : Digital Blending technique applied to urban night photography. From several photos taken at different speeds, you will merge them to obtain the largest dynamic range. The finalization of the image will be done with Nik Color Efex filters.
  • Exercise 2 : Digital Blending technique applied to landscape photography. Combination of exposures taken with different settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed), as well as with ND filters. Some tips for accentuating lights and painting colors will be explained. Finalizing the image will be done with Nik Color Efex filters.
  • Exercise 3: Creating vertical panoramas (Vertoramas).
  • Exercise 4 : Using fusion modes: this technique allows you to instantly combine exposures such as "car light fillets", fireworks, light rays, flashes, in order to create images with even more visual impact.
Exercise 5 : Focus Stacking. This technique makes it possible to obtain a perfectly sharp image from foreground to background, even the foreground is very close to the lens.

    Workshop of 16/17 November 2019

This workshop on blending by Daniel Cheong lived up to my expectations. Numerous techniques are discussed both in terms of shooting and blending itself in post-production. Daniel shared his knowledge with method and pedagogy and unveiled the basics of his work so that we can make photos of the same kind as his. A monumental step forward for those who like to create sublime images by taking the best of each photo from the same spot and making it into a single one.
David brings his knowledge on Photoshop applications with the same qualities of pedagogy and skills.
The next day photo shoot in Paris in a good mood while benefiting from precious advices to perfect our learning.
For those who love architecture, David's workshops are a must. You will appreciate his talents as a photographer, his skills and his desire to share, all in a very friendly atmosphere.
