This course is available in English and French

You'll learn how to enhance your images, in the style you can see in the examples below the course thumbnail. You'll also find a few before-and-after examples further down in this description.

This course is aimed at advanced Photoshop users who already have a good knowledge of the software (layers, dynamic objects, blending masks, selections). If you don't master certain techniques, don't hesitate to contact me for a preliminary review.

You'll work on photos taken in the forest during autumn. This is the time when nature offers its magnificent palette of colors. This course will teach you techniques that will enable you to obtain results with a visual "boost" compared to the initial shot. You'll learn how to create different atmospheres, by playing with light and color, modifying the sky or adding sunlight.

Course content :

  • Shooting: technique and tips.

  • Sky replacement :
    two techniques will be covered:

    - If you have a very recent version of Photoshop, the automatic sky replacement tool will be explained.
    - You will also learn how to crop the sky in the "classic" way, using separation masks (prepared on an alpha layer). This technique is very effective for selecting small elements. This will be the case here with tree branches and foliage.
  • Colors:
Colors are one of the main elements to work on.

You'll learn how to use the various settings that affect them. Modifications are sometimes global, but more often localized. We will therefore use tools to select areas of the image.
  • Atmosphere :
As you'll have noticed from the images in this course, the overall mood is almost always different from the basic image. You'll learn how to create different moods, sometimes with global applications on the image, but more often by playing with lights and shadows in a localized way. The creation of rays of light, the dramatization of the sky, or even the creation of mist, all contribute greatly to the overall atmosphere. You'll learn all the techniques you need to achieve the results you want.
  • Filters :
In this course, you'll learn how to use several filters from the Nik Collection suite (see software section below). Some of them are very easy to use to create the right mood.

Software :
For this course, you will need to have the Nik Collection suite installed on your computer.

If you don't have it, you can find a trial version, or buy a license on the DxO website.

For Adobe Photoshop, you'll need to have the latest version installed on your computer if you wish to learn about the new automatic sky replacement tool. If you have an older version, sky replacement using the classic separation mask method will be covered during the course.

Remarks :

  • This course consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. I will adapt and alternate these two parts according to the knowledge you have already acquired, and the techniques I will introduce to you.
  • For the practical part, you'll be guided through the image creation process, live during the videoconference, thanks to screen sharing.
  • In order to optimize the duration of the course, I invite you to read the section "How Photoshop courses work" on the page frequently asked questions.
  • Image files for this course are provided.

Video summary:
This course is accompanied by a video summary.
It is recorded during the course and summarizes the key points. Also, depending on your specific needs, which will be assessed during the course, certain additional points may be added to the video.
The video summary will be sent to you in MP4 format, via WeTransfer, after the course.

David Duchens is an excellent instructor. He explains everything in detail and shows you how to do the process. He also allows you to practice what you have learned and gives you feedback so you can master the techniques. My photos are already looking much better by applying the techniques that I learned with him. He also sends you a copy of the recording of the classes so that you can watch at your leisure. You can also contact him and ask him questions. I'm so happy that I enrolled in some of his classes. It was well worth it and he's a very kind person too. Thank you again David for sharing your expertise with us to help us improve our photographic & Photoshop techniques.

After the concrete of architecture, I ventured into the bucolic with this training to sublimate my landscape and nature images.
David's skill is still evident. I come to learn and I'm not disappointed.
He's always available, patient and willing to share his knowledge. Once again, I've come away more seasoned in these Photoshop techniques.
    I'll be back again.
    Gilles

Every landscape photographer should take this course. Some things are easier to do than with Lightroom, thanks to David and his pedagogy.
Everything is clear, limpid and......... simple!
Thanks a million David for everything you've taught me about Photoshop.
    Best regards,
    Alain PHILIBERT

After having done the black and white course I have just followed "sublimating nature". David is always educational, patient and never stingy with explanations or his time. As far as I'm concerned, practicing during the course helps me to understand better, and the video allows me to do it over and over again. And David is always ready to listen to our doubts and questions, even after the course is over. I can only recommend David's skills. Thank you, I've learned a lot.

  5. karim dakouri (confirmed customer) -

I met David at a live event and I've done several online courses with him. I've learned a lot thanks to his great teaching methods and his patience - I'm a person who gives a lot of time to his students, and I highly recommend David to anyone who wants to progress in PS.

  6. christine (confirmed customer) -

I've just taken this course from David and, as with all his courses, David is very creative, has great ideas and is also a great teacher. His explanations are clear and David doesn't hesitate to repeat them if you don't understand right away. And as everything is recorded, it's easy to practice. Thank you David and well done!

  7. Françoise TESTINI (confirmed customer) -

An educational course in which David teaches us how to sublimate a landscape using PS tools.
David is a seasoned trainer, an excellent teacher who doesn't hesitate to share his experience.
The individual online course is akin to real coaching, making it easy for anyone to learn the various tools used during the session. Live exchanges during the course make it easy to assimilate PS, with the added bonus of a video of our personalized training so you can practice and not forget anything.
I encourage anyone who has passed the beginner level to take this advanced PS course.
Many thanks David for your availability and see you soon for another training session.

  8. Danielle Zahn (confirmed customer) -

I've just finished the Sublimating Nature course, and I really enjoyed it.
I already knew David from one of his face-to-face courses in Paris, and with his characteristic patience, I knew he would listen to me, which was perfectly the case!
He was able to guide me throughout the course, thanks to screen sharing via video, to help me make progress, by having me do the exercises shown and explained after him.
A course that really covers some very interesting techniques for post-processing landscapes on Photoshop. An approach that I found very creative and artistic, adaptable to many other photographic subjects.
I'd recommend without moderation this truly enriching course, conducted with brio, skill, pedagogy ... and patience ....Thanks to you David .

  9. muriel003 (confirmed customer) -

I've just taken the course on enhancing nature images. I must say that the results are amazing.
I've already taken other sessions with David, who knows how to adapt his teaching perfectly to the needs and/or level of the trainee.
The balance between demonstration and practice is ideal. All the actions to be performed are accessible.
If you want to sublimate the images you have in the back of your hard drive because they're "too bad", this is THE course for you, and the results are more than surprising.
