Course Description

Floral and botanical elements are wonderful subjects to explore using creative layering techniques, both in the camera and in the processing phase. The expression of our artistry with these natural elements results in uniquely intimate portraits of nature’s beauty. Gathering elements gives us the opportunity to explore flowers and botanical elements individually and then to bring those elements together through creative layering techniques.
During her session, through a presentation and demonstration, Stephanie discusses her approach to gathering elements as a form of creative expression using florals and botanical elements as subjects. She shows how she uses creative layering techniques in the camera for camera-based images, as well as how she pushes the boundaries of camera-based images by layering and blending them in Photoshop. Additionally, she also shares how she uses handmade cyanotypes as an element to layer with her camera-based imagery to push her artistry into new realms of creativity.

Stephanie’s approach in Photoshop is rooted more in the idea of exploration and play rather than being specifically technically oriented, so this isn’t about using Photoshop as a technical tool but rather as a creative tool.
Stephanie is not a master Photoshop user. She uses simple Photoshop techniques to create her imagery and feels anyone can learn how to do this when approaching Photoshop with a spirit of curiosity and willingness to play. By sharing her own processes in Photoshop, she hopes to somewhat demystify Photoshop in a way that encourages people to give it a go for themselves.
Stephanie – Short Bio
Stephanie is a self-taught creative photographer who uses camera-based digital techniques, such as Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and Multiple Exposure (ME), and handmade analog techniques, such as Cyanotypes, as forms for artistic expression. She has a deep passion for crafting distinctive and abstract imagery that reflects her unique artistic vision and the concept of Intentional Creative Moments. As a visual artist, she is constantly seeking to push the boundaries of her creativity by evolving her processes, techniques, and stylistic choices.

Course Description

Throughout the course, you will explore numerous techniques for transforming floral photographs into poetic, dynamic and dreamlike compositions:
- Precise selections, masking and background removal
- Creating and combining floral elements
- Layers and blending modes
- Textures and artistic backgrounds
- Motion blur, stacking and movement effects
- Multiple-exposure-inspired effects
- Creative lighting and atmospheric effects
- Creating your own textures
- Advanced Photoshop filters and creative techniques
- Using AI-generated elements as a starting point for creative work
- Building harmonious floral compositions
You will learn how to create images in which flowers, colors, textures and light interact to produce a sense of movement, softness and atmosphere. From delicate and ethereal compositions to more experimental creations, the objective is always the same: to give you the tools to develop your own visual language rather than simply reproduce a predefined style.
Use of plugins:
Although they are not absolutely necessary for this course, I will show you some additional possibilities through the use of plugins. If you don’t have them, you can download the trial versions. They can be installed in Photoshop filters.
Boris FX Optics: This software specializes in creating visual effects. It contains a large number of filters, all of which can be modified, offering almost endless possibilities.
Nik Collection: This suite of software is well known to photographers. I will show you how to use several filters that are not always well known.
How the workshop works :
This workshop is delivered online (via the Internet), and live. The ZOOM video conferencing application will be used. The connection is established in a few clicks. You do not need to create an account or subscribe to Zoom to participate in the workshop. An invitation link will be sent to you by e-mail before each session. You will then simply be asked to download the application, in order to get the user interface. It is very easy to learn. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
